I don't make resolutions, but every New Years Eve, I take stock of my life. I like to sit and think about what are (or appear to be) the most pressing problems I'm currently facing. Sometimes I develop a plan of action, but most of the time it's useful to just consider the problem itself.
The more telling thing I do is to think back and remember what those problems were a year ago...and realize that they are never the same. It's funny how something that seemed SO important just 12 short months ago suddenly reveals its petty insignificance. I would love to say that this experience has taught me not to sweat the small stuff, but I'd be lying. Why else do I repeat it year after year?
But it is a nice yearly reminder to not take myself so seriously, that in the end everything will work out. And that's a lesson that bears repeating.
Happy New Year, everyone!
